Women experience various forms of violence in their everyday lives. It does not matter which country they are in.Sakubva women are faced with gender inequalities, poverty, poor medical care, lack of economic power and stressed male counterparts in their communities.According to records now 23 women are either raped, beaten or sexually violated every 24hrs.Of this number only 3 of the cases are reported.Deaths related to violence against women have been registered and some have gone unpunished.ReSa would like to stop the violence by empowering women through access to information.ReSa would like to sensitise the men in the community by printing 10 different messages crafted by women themselves on protection and respect.2000 tshirts bearing these messages will be printed.100 women will also be given tabloids where they can search for information and share the information with 50 women in their circle. Each women will have a circle to manage and 50 women will be in each circle. To make this a reality ReSa would like to raise USD 100 000 for this project. The money goes towards buying the tabloids and ensuring that the women get internet connections on selected points.
Sakubva high density surburb has 5 primary schools and 6 secondary schools currently. However with the growing numbers in population the number of students per school is also growing. Most of the schools are failing to cope with this growing number. One such school is Chisamba Primary school where students still kneel in order to write. There is dire need for new student chairs at this school. If a student's sitting posture is not correct it affects his/her writing and concerntration. We are therefore inviting and encouraging all well wishers to help us buy 250 chairs for this school. If you are interested contact us at [email protected] or at 0771570143.One chair costs $10.
This project encourages the community at large to donate books towards the local community library as well as to use the facilities availed to them by the library. We are inviting everyone from all ages to come and read books that are readily available in the library and gain some insight.A good leader is a good reader.
The Sakubva Beit Hall holds cherished childhood memories. In this hall we watched Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee movies, met for indoor games, held community meetings, had our first chance of singing and acting on a stage. It was in Sakubva that lipsincing was introduced and each Thursday afternoon after school various singing rehearsals were done.Outside the Beithall we played basketball, netball and volleyball.Church services were also held in this hall.Communities used this as a meeting place too.
Now Sakubva Beit Hall is a white elephant. No more movies and no more community meetings.Sakubva youths now do their rehearsals on the dirty patches of what is left of the tarred road. Some have resorted to petty crimes, idleness and unhealthy coping mechanisms. This Hall can be revamped and community activities can be done again. This can be done with your help to help clean this up through new painting, installation of lights, curtains and musical instruments for those with the love of music.Let today's residents enjoy the benefits of this hall and stay away from drugs, crime and unhealthy coping mechanisms.
